4.3 Lifelong learning measures

It is believed that education is the most powerful weapon to change the world. This is why Dentistry UI has always been passionate in contributing to society. Publicly posted general lectures and educational videos are spread throughout our social channels. Dentistry UI also provides both on-campus and online access to the library and subscribed academic journals. Additionally, we also facilitate students to volunteer in various off-campus social services.

The Universitas Indonesia already provided and facilitated websites for open course activities such as webinars that are organized by both the faculty and study programs that can be accessed by the general public for free as part of information dissemination and community service. In hosting general lecture, FKG UI shared information in our social media, and the webinars are accessible for everyone without registration fee.

Free access to campus facilities and equipment

The Faculty of Dentistry Universitas Indonesia in Salemba Campus Library offers free access to the general public. Visitors can find a variety of resources including 5509 books, especially in the field of Dentistry, three computer units, chairs and tables, storage cabinets, air conditioners, plant pots, and a librarian team service center. In order to borrow books from the FKG UI Salemba library, visitors need to register.

It offers a variety of programs that cater to the needs and interests of students, professionals, and the public. One of the unique features of the faculty is its hold general lectures that were accessible for the faculty members as well as the students. These courses are designed to enhance the knowledge and skills in clinics and research of dentistry fields. The faculty also collaborates with various national and international organizations to conduct research and outreach activities that contribute to the advancement of dentistry and public health. By providing these free courses, the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Indonesia demonstrates its commitment to excellence, innovation, and social responsibility.

4.3.4 Education outreach activities beyond campus

The Faculty of Dentistry at Universitas Indonesia has launched a health outreach program to increase the awareness of oral health in the communities. The program aims to provide dental education, screening, and treatment to people who have limited access to oral health care. The program also seeks to promote preventive measures, such as brushing, flossing, and fluoride use, to reduce the risk of dental diseases and complications. The program is supported by a team of dentists, dental hygienists, and dental students who volunteer their time and skills to serve the community. The program hopes to improve the quality of life and well-being of the people through better oral health.

  1. Faculty of Dentistry, University of Indonesia held a health outreach program to the Bumi Agung Elementary School in Kalianda, South Lampung, Lampung Province, on May 15th–17th to educate and raise awareness regarding oral health, dental malposition and dentocraniofacial deformities, and orthodontic treatment. The team was made up of 51 peope, supervised by 12 orthodontic department lecturers.   2. To increase awareness of the elderly, the Department of Prosthodontia FKG UI held counseling services as well as oral health checks and oral gymnastics practices with the Retirement Community at Rukun Senior Living, on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. Titled “Cheerful Seniors: Realizing a Healthy Smile Together”, the elderly were very eager to listen to counseling and follow the health services.   3. The Department of Dental Material Science of the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) UI and Bogor Regency PDGI carried out a community service program. The activity was carried out at the Pesantren Yatim and Dhuafa Assa’adah 3 Ciseeng School, Bogor, with the theme “Improving Knowledge and Attitudes About Preventing Cavities with Fluoride Varnish Material in Pesantren Teenagers Aged 14–16 Years”. The community service program included counseling, health checks, and cadre formation. The main objective is to increase awareness of the importance of oral health and reduce dental and oral problems in adolescents.   4. The National Dental Health Month (BKGN) 2023 was again held by the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Indonesia (FKG UI), RSKGM FKG UI, and also supported by Unilever Indonesia, which took place on October 18–20, 2023 at the Salemba Campus, Central Jakarta. In this implementation, with the support of 30 dentists and 60 dental students, more than 750 people have received free dental health services. FKG UI carried out community service activities in the form of dental and oral health promotion with the goal of training Sukaresmi Health Center cadres, teachers, parents, and students of 01 Sukaluyu Elementary School in Taman Sari District, Bogor Regency, on October 28, 2023. The Department of Oral Medicine of FKG UI helped the local government take preventive curative steps by means of education and literacy through community service activities on October 20th 2023, with the theme “Efforts to Improve Dental and Oral Health through Posyandu Cadres and Health Workers in Stunting Prevention” in Sobang District, Pandeglang Regency, to increase the knowledge of health cadres about the importance of preventing stunting in easy ways, namely by implementing clean and healthy living behaviors and maintaining oral hygiene. This community service activity was held with cadres and Puskesmas officials as the target participants with a total of 45 participants. On Program Basis

On Program Basis, FKG UI has a collaboration with Kampung Ilmu, at Cisarua Village, Tegalwaru, Purwakarta, that was founded by Nurani Dunia foundation. The community services has been started since 2022, and FKG UI is delivering the oral health education to the primary, junior, and senior high school students, also the teachers, health visitors, and the mothers; and performing the oral examination.
